Cream stouts, sometimes referred to as Milk stouts or Sweet stouts, have a long history in England, though few imported examples are available today in the U.S. Originally touted for their nutritional value, Cream stouts were marketed to lactating mothers for their health benefits as a result of the addition of lactose, or milk sugar.
